On the afternoon of August 8, 2018, 18-year-old Joel Keshon Green of Toccoa, Georgia, was shot once in the head while talking with a female in a vehicle at the corner of Franklin and South Alexander Streets. First responders performed CPR and took him to Stephens County Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Investigators linked Green’s killing to criminal street gang activity and tied it to an earlier shooting in Toccoa that had wounded another young man, Spencer Reason.
Within days of the shooting, local authorities arrested Kentavius Broudmain Walker, 21, and Ty’Jai Trammel, 23, charging both with malice murder and felony murder; Walker was also connected to the earlier shooting of Spencer Reason. A third suspect, 29-year-old Demetrius Sanchez Smith, was later arrested in Green’s death, and 18-year-old Samantha Breanna George was charged in the Spencer Reason shooting. In August 2019 a Stephens County grand jury returned indictments that included charges under the Street Gang Terrorism and Prevention Act against Walker, Smith, and George.
Walker was convicted of Joel Green’s murder and received life without parole; Smith was acquitted at that trial but faced separate drug and gang convictions later. The final disposition of charges against Ty’Jai Trammel and Samantha Breanna George is not detailed. Does anyone have information about Joel’s last known movements or the people who were with him that afternoon?
