Shaun Barfield was 33 and living in Monroe when he was found shot and unresponsive on Tanglewood Lane on the evening of Sunday, May 6, 2018. Responding officers arrived about 5:59 p.m., and the Walton County coroner’s office pronounced him dead at the scene. His death came one day after another fatal shooting in the same Tanglewood neighborhood, prompting a multiagency investigation by the Monroe Police Department, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, and the Walton County District Attorney’s Office.

Investigators identified 24-year-old Qumentiz Marquez McKibben of Monroe as the primary suspect in Barfield’s murder and obtained a warrant charging him with felony murder. McKibben, described as known to frequent the Covington and Newton County areas and considered armed and dangerous, was taken into custody in the Covington area on the evening of May 22, 2018, and booked into the Newton County Jail. Anonymous tips led detectives and the Hall County Sheriff’s Dive Team to Lake Varner in Newton County, where a firearm was recovered and sent to the GBI Crime Lab for testing. Authorities said the investigations into both weekend shootings remained active and additional arrests were expected.

Did anyone in the Tanglewood area see or hear anything useful that weekend?
