Dwayne Pete, 30, was killed on March 5, 2018, in his Norcross, Georgia apartment during what police describe as a domestic dispute. The incident began while his wife, Willona Pete, was moving out to South Carolina; an 18-year-old visitor, Jerry Bennett of Spartanburg, South Carolina, was helping her. Jerry Bennett intervened and shot Dwayne Pete once in the chest. Emergency responders transported Dwayne Pete to a local hospital, where he later died.

Gwinnett County Police were called around midnight and investigated the scene and interviews with those present. Bennett was arrested and charged with felony murder and aggravated assault. Police records cited a history of domestic disturbances at the couple’s residence with multiple prior calls.
