On the late afternoon of January 29, 2018, James Caswell Jones, 62, of nearby Midway was found dead beside his blue GMC Sierra pickup outside a residence on Freedman Grove Road in Fleming, Georgia. The Liberty County Sheriff’s Office and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation determined Jones died of a gunshot wound and opened a homicide investigation, asking the public about any unusual activity in the area that day.
Detectives interviewed witnesses who were nearby and members of Jones’s family. Those interviews produced a person of interest who, after further questioning, became the primary suspect. Authorities arrested 31-year-old Eptwarnd Saunders of Midway, an employee at Angie's Diner, and charged him with murder and aggravated assault. Saunders was taken into custody, had an initial court appearance at the Liberty County Jail, and was denied bond; motive remained under investigation.
If anyone saw activity on Freedman Grove Road or knows anything about Jones’s movements that afternoon, please share what you know.
