Donald Marquise Hardwick was 24 when he was found shot to death in his Gray, Georgia apartment at Northside Villas off Eatonton Highway on November 13, 2017. Known to family as Marquise, he was a father of two, attended Jones County High School and later earned his GED from Central Georgia Technical College; he had hoped to play basketball at New Hampshire Technical College.
Investigators tied the killing to gang retaliation after a dispute over a woman, and named three suspects: Cameron Myles Banks, Justerrious Shyheim Canty, and Jaqualan Desean Clark. Reports say Hardwick was shot 24 times while lying in his bed.
Banks and Canty were arrested and charged in December 2017; Clark, who was identified as a suspect, was apprehended with U.S. Marshals assistance. The case proceeded to trial in late September 2022 with guilty verdicts and prison sentences reported.
