In the early morning hours of November 12, 2017, a silver 2004 Buick LeSabre was found having struck two electrical poles on the 600 block of York Street in Valdosta, Georgia. Officers arriving at about 1:11 a.m. discovered the bodies of 19-year-old Geneva Norwood and 26-year-old Clarence Burnett inside the vehicle. Both were African American; Norwood was 19.

Although the crash was first treated as a motor vehicle accident, further examination showed both Norwood and Burnett had sustained gunshot wounds, and the case was reclassified as a double homicide. Detectives from the Valdosta Police Department’s Investigative Bureau and crime scene technicians processed the scene. Investigators noted initial vehicle examination findings suggested the incident may have been drug-related. No public information about arrests or identified suspects has been released.

If anyone knew Geneva, Clarence, or saw activity on York Street that night, please share information with the Valdosta Police Department.
