On the night of October 22, 2017, 25-year-old Travion Jones was shot and killed after an altercation that began inside the Sand Trap lounge in Albany, Georgia, spilled into the club’s parking lot. Two off-duty Albany police officers were providing security at the club; the complaint filed later by Jones’s mother, Jill Jones, alleges the officers did not intervene as the confrontation escalated. According to that complaint, one of the assailants told Travion he would not be leaving the parking lot alive.
Police identified Dominique Davis, also known as Maurice Davis, as the initial suspect, and a subsequent investigation led to murder charges against eight other men: Tremain McKnight, Stacy Frazier, DaQuan Moore, Ricardo Rhymes, Darius Wheeler, James Byrd, Derrick Lamar Jenkins, and Samuel Jenkins. Jill Jones’ March 2019 civil lawsuit seeks damages from the city of Albany, the police department, the two officers, the nightclub, and its owner, alleging negligence and failure to protect her son.
Who knew Travion or was at the Sand Trap that night and can help fill in what happened in the parking lot?
