A gathering at a mobile home park in Mableton, Georgia, on October 14, 2017, ended in a fatal shooting. The victim was 27-year-old Juan Carlos Zambrano Canales. According to witnesses, an argument began after Zambrano Canales told another guest, Francisco Javier Madera, to relax chiqui. Madera left the party but returned a short time later with a handgun and shot the unarmed, barefoot Zambrano Canales multiple times, striking his abdomen and back. He was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital, where he later died; a treating nurse testified that a major vein had been punctured by the gunfire.
Police located and arrested Madera in Little Rock, Arkansas, two days after the shooting. He was returned to Cobb County and charged with felony murder and aggravated assault. A Cobb County jury later convicted Francisco Javier Madera of malice murder, felony murder, and aggravated assault, and a judge sentenced him to life in prison.
Did anyone at the Winnstead Drive gathering know more about what triggered the confrontation or have information that wasn’t shared at trial?
