Jeffrey Lee Quick was 35 when he vanished from his home on Campbell Mountain Road in Tyro, Nelson County, Virginia, on Memorial Day weekend, May 23, 1998. His wife saw a black car turn into the driveway as she left to shop; a friend who had been visiting left briefly, heard gunshots, then later saw that same black car pull away. Quick has not been seen or heard from since.
A 2001 search of Philpott Lake turned up a 55-gallon drum with human remains, but those remains were identified as Ether Adean Smith, a woman missing from Martinsville since 1989, not Quick. A Nelson County special grand jury in January 2003 concluded that acquaintance Frank Farinacci had murdered Quick and disposed of his body; Farinacci was killed in February 2002 by his wife Elizabeth, who was later convicted.
Recently the case was reopened and investigators say, based on new interviews, they now have high confidence Quick was killed on or about May 22, 1998, and that his remains are in the Bassett area of Henry County. No physical evidence has yet given a specific search location. Anyone in the Bassett or Henry County area with information is asked to come forward.
