Erica Denise Powell was 46 when she was shot dead in the master bedroom of her Snellville, Georgia home on the evening of July 20, 2017. The fatal shooting followed a domestic dispute with her husband, Walter J. Lowe; their young son, reported as either 10 or 12 at the time, discovered her after seeing his stepfather leave and then checking on his mother. Powell was a mother of six.

Investigators quickly focused on Lowe, who had a prior 2015 incident that resulted in battery and terroristic threats charges. The couple had reconciled after that episode and had been married less than a year before the homicide. Lowe turned himself in days after the shooting and was charged with felony murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

At an August 2018 trial the prosecution emphasized the couple’s volatile relationship and presented evidence that Powell had been taking steps to leave, including seeking a new job and expressing a desire for divorce. The jury convicted Lowe of his wife’s murder after a ten-day trial. Does anyone have information about Erica’s life in Snellville or knew her family that could add context to her story?
