Willie Simpson Jr., known as Willrock, was shot on the night of Sunday, April 16, 2017, in or near Montezuma, Georgia, and later died at a hospital in Americus. His mother, Gladys Simpson, heard five gunshots and then sounds over a police scanner that she later recognized as her son fighting for his life a few miles from home.
The shooting was investigated as a homicide. Several hours after the incident, Tony Davis Jr. turned himself in to authorities. Gladys Simpson said the two men were friends and she was unaware of any problems between them; the family described Willie Simpson as not deserving to die in a cold-blooded manner.
What do readers in the Montezuma area remember from that Easter night in 2017, and does anyone have information about what led to the confrontation?
