On the night of April 4, 2017, Dennis Ronald Gayton, 47, was shot while inside a vehicle on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard in Gainesville, Georgia. He was taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center and died of his injuries. Police described the incident as drug-related and initially sought a person of interest described as a Black male about 5 feet 0 inches to 5 feet 3 inches with a medium to stocky build and close-cropped hair.

Investigators later identified and arrested two suspects. Gayton’s 15-year-old son witnessed the shooting. The two men charged in connection with the murder were Marquis Lejon Studivant and Tadrick Terrian Osborne. Osborne pleaded guilty to two counts of conspiracy to commit a crime and received a 20-year sentence; in August 2018 Studivant was found guilty of felony murder and sentenced to life. Did anyone in Gainesville know Dennis Gayton or see activity on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard that night?
