MarQuez Brown, 23, and Private Malika Jackson, 21, were found shot to death inside Brown’s townhome on Rebecca Street in Hinesville, Georgia, after police followed an anonymous tip on the evening of Sunday, March 5, 2017. Both men were soldiers stationed at nearby Fort Stewart; an autopsy later confirmed each had been shot twice.
Investigators quickly focused on a fellow serviceman. Within days Hinesville police and the Army Criminal Investigation Division arrested 24-year-old Sergeant Shaquille D. Craig on two counts of murder, saying the motive was personal and grew from a dispute between Craig and Jackson. Authorities also charged Specialist Phillip Thompson with two counts of being a party to the crime, alleging Thompson drove Craig to the home, gained entry by claiming he had left something at the earlier party, left the door unlocked, and later helped dispose of the weapon and clothing.
Craig was denied bond and the matter was to be presented to a grand jury. If readers knew either victim, were at the party the night before, or have information about the events that led to the killings, please share what is known.
