Kareem Mano, 25, was killed in the parking lot of a USA Grocery on Rocky Creek Road in Macon, Georgia, on February 23, 2017. The fatal confrontation began over a cellphone that Mano said had been sold — reportedly a locked or faulty iPhone sold to the sister of Mano’s girlfriend. Store surveillance captured the exchange escalating into violence.
Video shows Mano briefly draw a large handgun from his pants but not fire it; he then tucked it back into his waistband. De’Andre Malik Thomas, 20, produced a firearm and began shooting as Mano turned to flee. Mano collapsed behind an SUV at a gas pump and died at the scene from a gunshot wound to the chest. Thomas surrendered the next day and was charged with murder; he was denied bond at his first court appearance and had been free on a $65,000 bond for an earlier robbery charge at the time of the shooting. This was the Mano family’s second son lost to gun violence.
Does anyone have information about the moments before the confrontation or saw what led to the argument over the phone?
