On January 7, 2017, 25-year-old E’Lisha Den’Zel Smith was shot and killed on 7th Street in Cairo, Georgia. Investigators say the shooting followed a dispute over money that escalated into a physical confrontation. Authorities identified 21-year-old Nicholas Lequinte Perry as the person who allegedly produced a firearm and shot Smith.
Perry reportedly fled the scene and was sought across state lines. He was located and arrested in Tallahassee, Florida, on January 13, 2017, after making a call from a blocked number to an acquaintance in Clearwater, Florida, and was held in the Mitchell County Jail. In April 2017 he appeared in Grady County State Court; bond was set at $110,000 with strict conditions including lockdown at his parents’ residence except for attorney meetings, no contact with Smith’s family or witnesses, and an order to stay away from the 200 block of 7th Street.
Are there readers who knew E’Lisha Smith or who have information about the shooting or its aftermath?
