Daniel Phalon Triplett, 25, was found dead on the morning of December 28, 2016, on a secluded dirt road called H. Berol Road in Waynesboro, Georgia. Department of Natural Resources personnel discovered the body and notified the Burke County Sheriff’s Office.

Investigators, including special agents from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, determined Triplett had sustained at least one gunshot wound and the case was being treated as a murder investigation. An autopsy was to be performed at the GBI crime lab; full autopsy findings were not released publicly. In the days after the discovery, law enforcement asked the public for information, but no arrests or persons of interest had been announced.
