On the evening of December 27, 2016, 43-year-old Audra Eaker was driving westbound on Highway 92 near Indian Valley Drive in Woodstock, Georgia, when she was shot and killed inside her Ford Edge. She was pronounced dead in the vehicle from multiple gunshot wounds to her head and face, and traffic was stopped as officers responded.

The passenger was her estranged husband, 43-year-old Darrell L. Eaker II. He remained at the scene after the shooting, reportedly dropping a .45 caliber handgun inside the vehicle and walking away without rendering aid. He was taken into custody and charged with malice murder and aggravated assault; a grand jury later returned indictments including felony murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.

The case went to trial in October 2018; a Cherokee County jury found Darrell Eaker guilty of malice murder, aggravated assault, and related firearm charges, and he was sentenced to life in prison without parole for Audra’s killing.
