On the night of November 13, 2016, 25-year-old Brian Keith Moore was fatally shot at a residence in the 2400 block of Knox Drive in Valdosta, Georgia. Valdosta Police arrived after a 9:45 p.m. call and found Moore deceased from a gunshot wound. Investigators later described the killing as an isolated, not random act and said it occurred during an attempted robbery carried out by 20-year-old Emory Austin Carter Jr., who went to Moore’s home with another person and shot him.
The case took a darker turn after the killing. A friend of Moore’s reportedly removed a handgun and narcotics from the scene before officers arrived, and members of Moore’s family learned Carter’s identity but did not tell police, which the Valdosta Police Chief said hindered the investigation and delayed apprehension. Carter was himself shot and killed on November 28, 2016, on the 600 block of East Ann Street in what was believed to be retaliation for Moore’s murder. Authorities charged several people in the related incidents, including charges tied to Carter’s death and alleged tampering and false statements.
If anyone knew Moore, his movements that night, or has information about the people involved, please come forward to assist ongoing inquiries.
