Brian Matthew Parks was 18 when he was fatally shot inside an apartment in Thomson, Georgia, on the evening of October 18, 2016. He had been living in that apartment with Brian Atkins Jr., who at first told investigators the shooting was accidental and later gave a false account saying Parks had been shot outside by someone else. Parks’s dying words to a friend at the scene were paraphrased as Jada, call 911.

Investigators uncovered a prior altercation about six weeks earlier during which Atkins had threatened Parks. Forensic analysis showed the fatal bullet passed downward through Parks’s chest, a detail that contradicted the accidental-shooting claim. Atkins was arrested and charged in connection with the death. Two other people present, Terry Thomas and Montavis Williams, were charged and later pleaded guilty to tampering with evidence for removing the gun and bullets before police arrived.

A jury found Brian Atkins Jr. guilty of felony murder, and he was sentenced to life in prison plus five years. Does anyone have information about Brian Parks’s life in Thomson or about witnesses who were at the apartment that night?
