A family cookout in Lakeland, Georgia ended in violence on the night of September 9, 2016, when 32-year-old Willis Lamar Flintroyal was shot at a residence on East Peeler Avenue. Flintroyal was transported by family to SGMC Hospital in Lakeland but was pronounced dead. A second 32-year-old, Schalonda Beatrice Johnson, was also brought to the hospital with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation was asked to take over the homicide probe. Investigators identified Lewis Shukung Geddie as a suspect and, while officers were still at the first scene, heard additional gunfire nearby. They found Geddie, then 20, suffering multiple gunshot wounds; a separate man, Fredrick Tyrone Calhoun, was later charged in connection with those wounds. The mother of Calhoun, who had been Geddie’s former foster parent, said the three men had grown up together and called Flintroyal’s killing senseless.
GBI agents secured arrest warrants for Lewis Shukung Geddie on September 10, 2016, charging him with felony murder and aggravated assault in Flintroyal’s death and Johnson’s shooting. Did anyone at the cookout or in the neighborhood witness what happened that night?
