Malik Jackson, an 18-year-old Black male, was killed in Savannah on August 1, 2016, when gunfire shattered the afternoon at Lamarville Park near ACL Boulevard and Adams Avenue. Police said he was found shot just before 3:00 p.m. near the playground after witnesses reported hearing an argument followed by a single gunshot. The scene quickly became a homicide investigation and detectives searched for the person responsible.

On August 12, investigators obtained a murder warrant for 27-year-old Marque Williams, who was described as having access to a black 2011 Toyota Camry and a 2000 Chevrolet Monte Carlo and as someone who frequented the Tatemville and Lamarville areas. Authorities said he might have fled toward Atlanta. On August 19, Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police detectives, with the U.S. Marshals Service, located Williams on the 10600 block of Abercorn Street and arrested him without incident; he was taken to the Chatham County Detention Center and charged with murder.
