On the night of July 31, 2016, in Austell, Georgia, 42-year-old Larry Grigsby was shot while driving after dropping off his fiancée’s daughter at the West Park Apartment Complex. Grigsby was driving a Chevrolet Trailblazer with his two young children, 8-year-old Elijah and 6-year-old Alisha, in the backseat. After being struck, he managed to drive a short distance before the SUV veered off Six Flags Parkway and crashed into a wooded area near a Marathon gas station.

Police responded to a 911 call about the wreck around 2:30 a.m. Grigsby was found alive but died minutes later; his children were physically uninjured but had witnessed the shooting and later had some of their father’s blood on them, according to the family. The children told family and reporters that Grigsby had not argued with or confronted anyone before the shooting. Cobb County police investigated the incident as a homicide and family members described him as a caring, peace-loving man who they believe was in the wrong place at the wrong time.

No suspects have been publicly named and no arrests have been reported; the motive remains unknown. If anyone knew Larry, was in the West Park Apartments or Six Flags Parkway area that night, or has information about the shooting, please come forward.
