On an evening in April 2016, 24-year-old Jimeshia Gordon was shot in the neck at the Cumberland Oaks Apartments in St. Marys, Georgia. She was airlifted to a hospital in Jacksonville, Florida, but succumbed to her injuries. Her 14-month-old daughter, Kamela, suffered a graze wound to the forehead and was treated and released to family members. Gordon was a mother of two daughters, ages one and four at the time, and remembered by family as loving and devoted.
Law enforcement identified Gordon’s 31-year-old live-in boyfriend, Roney Wilson Jr., as a person of interest after he fled the scene on foot. Wilson’s sister said he contacted her and claimed the shooting was accidental; he reportedly feared turning himself in because of a prior violent-offense history that included battery, aggravated assault, and false imprisonment. A tip led federal marshals to a pawn shop in Indianapolis four months later, where Wilson was arrested and held in Marion County before extradition to Georgia on a warrant for felony murder and two counts of aggravated assault.
Wilson went to trial in Camden County beginning in April 2018. He said the gun discharged accidentally during an argument; a jury convicted him on five of six counts, including murder. Sentencing was scheduled for the following month. Does anyone have information about Jimeshia’s life in St. Marys or the Cumberland Oaks Apartments that could add context to this case?
