On April 13, 2016, a confrontation at the Nottingham North Apartments in Albany, Georgia, ended with two men exchanging gunfire. Fifty-six-year-old Herbert Garner Mitchell, a U.S. Army veteran who retired after thirty-five years of service and returned from Germany in 2006, was found dead at 2401 Nottingham Way. The other man involved, 35-year-old Bryan Collier, was critically wounded and taken to Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital, where he died two days later on April 15.
Police described a heated argument that escalated into both men drawing firearms and shooting at close range. After Collier’s death the Albany Police Department said no further criminal investigation would be pursued because both participants were deceased. Few other facts about the relationship between the men or what sparked the fight have been released.
Did anyone living near Nottingham North Apartments in April 2016 see or hear anything that could shed light on what led to this deadly encounter?
