Reverend Rene Wayne Robert, 71, was found murdered in a wooded area in Waynesboro, Georgia, after being last seen on April 10, 2016, in St. Augustine, Florida. An autopsy showed he had been shot multiple times; his remains were recovered miles away in Burke County. He had been a Catholic priest who worked with people on the margins of society.

Investigators say the search zeroed in on 28-year-old Steven James Murray, who was arrested in Aiken, South Carolina after a police chase and a crash involving the priest’s car. Authorities allege Murray kidnapped Reverend Robert in Florida, put him in the car’s trunk, drove him into Georgia, released him in a remote area and shot him. Murray was charged with malice murder and kidnapping and was denied bond; while in custody he reportedly expressed remorse and described mental health problems.

If anyone knew Reverend Robert, saw his car after April 10, 2016, or has information about his movements between Florida and Georgia, please come forward.
