Late on Christmas Day 2015, gunfire and a subsequent crash ended in the death of 53-year-old Randy Thomas Hooks in Savannah, Georgia. Hooks was found inside his pickup after it struck two vehicles and a tree at Reynolds and East 40th streets; investigators determined he had been shot three times before the collision. A ShotSpotter alert led police to the scene and the investigation was treated as a homicide.

Within weeks, 34-year-old Andre Daise was identified, arrested with assistance from the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office and the U.S. Marshal’s Service Southeast Regional Fugitive Taskforce, and charged with murder. At trial Daise pleaded not guilty. Prosecution witnesses included Andre Parker, who said Daise confessed and sought a false alibi; defense witnesses such as Desiree Queenie Futch disputed that Daise had a gun or was capable of the crime. The jury acquitted Daise, leaving Hooks’s killing unresolved.

Did anyone in the Savannah area see or hear anything that night that could help clarify what happened?
