Anthony Terrell Tavarez, 23, was shot dead in the breezeway of the Windwood Apartments in Austell, Georgia, in the early hours of September 16, 2015. Tavarez, a Mableton resident and father of a one-year-old with another child on the way, suffered at least one gunshot wound and was found around 12:30 a.m. after police responded to multiple calls about gunfire.

Witnesses said an argument during a dice game preceded the shooting. One man reportedly retrieved an assault rifle from a vehicle and fired into the complex, leaving multiple bullet holes. The arrest warrant described robbery as the motive; the suspects took Tavarez’s iPhone and cash, and shot him in the back as he tried to flee.

Three men tied to the Gangster Disciples were arrested in connection with the case: Darius Jarrell Dunn, Melvin William Evans, and Joshua Raphal Gore.
