On September 12, 2015, a meeting to settle a dispute over a cellphone robbery at gunpoint ended in a triple shooting on the 1400 block of Barnes Drive in West Savannah. Twenty-four-year-old Jayquan Turner was killed in the exchange; 19-year-old Ja’Von Wilson also died and a third man, 19-year-old Asim Simmons, was shot and survived.
Police tied the confrontation to an armed robbery the day before involving Shawn Rhinehart’s cellphone. Investigators identified several people they believed were involved. In the weeks afterward, arrests and indictments followed: Emile Randolph, 32, was charged in connection with Ja’Von Wilson’s death; Asim Jelani Simmons Jr., 19, and Quamelius Mook Lee, 20, were indicted on malice murder, felony murder and firearm charges in Turner’s killing and were also indicted on armed robbery related to the prior cellphone theft. An 18-year-old, Tom Frazier, was arrested and charged with armed robbery. Lee initially evaded capture and was the subject of a public request before being apprehended.
Are there details about the events on Barnes Drive that anyone nearby recalls or footage that could clarify how the shooting unfolded?
