Brandon Harris was 29 and visiting from Chicago when he was shot and killed on August 29, 2015, in Macon, Georgia. Just before 11:30 p.m. he and another man, Raleigh Jackson, had been walking from a restaurant toward a nearby gas station outside the Red Carpet Inn on Jeffersonville Road when gunfire broke out. Harris was taken to Coliseum Hospital and pronounced dead; Jackson was shot as well and transported to Medical Center Navicent Health in stable condition.

Initial reports described an unidentified assailant who shot both men. After a Bibb County Sheriff’s Office investigation, the man first reported as a second victim was arrested instead. On September 8, 2015, Raleigh Jackson was charged with Harris’s murder and denied bond at a magistrate appearance the following day.
