On the late afternoon of March 6, 2015, 27-year-old Ricardo James was shot in the 1000 block of Water Street in Bainbridge, Georgia. Neighbors reported hearing four to five gunshots around 4:35 p.m. Officers found that James had been taken from the scene in a private vehicle and was later pronounced dead at Memorial Hospital from a single chest wound caused by a bullet.
Investigators recovered about six to seven shell casings near the intersection of Water Street and Sims Street, and evidence indicates James walked a short distance before collapsing in the yard of a Water Street residence. A stray bullet also struck a home window; several children were inside at the time but were not physically injured.
Authorities identified 19-year-old Caliah VonKeith Burns as the primary suspect, obtained a murder warrant, and took Burns into custody after he surrendered on March 12, 2015. No motive has been released. If anyone in Bainbridge has information about where James spent time that afternoon or witnessed the shooting, please come forward.
