Ryan M. Marshall Jr. was 15 when he was fatally shot inside his family’s home on Oakley Commons Boulevard in Union City, Georgia, on March 4, 2015. A former standout student at the Ron Clark Academy and then enrolled at Langston Hughes High School, he was described as having a bright spirit and a vibrant voice.

According to initial accounts from his mother, she heard noises outside and saw several males attempting to carjack her husband. She said she fired a revolver as a warning shot to frighten them away, after which an assailant reportedly shot at her and Ryan. Ryan was struck in the chest and died of the gunshot wound.

Investigators later noted inconsistencies: vehicle glass was blown out from the inside, and the revolver the mother used had been fired twice, contradicting her statement that she fired only once. No arrests have been announced and the shooter remains at large; the case is still open.
