On the night of New Year’s Eve 2014 a shooting at a residence on U.S. 319 in East Dublin, Georgia, killed 25-year-old Antone Perry Johnson-Averette. A Laurens County resident for 23 years who worked as a self-employed roofer, Johnson-Averette and his fiancée, Lauren Charlene Tidd, were expecting a child at the time.
Deputies responding to a 911 call found Johnson-Averette deceased. A 17-year-old, Peter Vanderlin, was also shot and taken to a local hospital; the extent of his injuries was not immediately disclosed. In the days after the shooting, 38-year-old Corey Michael Bergeson of Statesboro was arrested and charged with murder, and authorities identified a 29-year-old man from East Dublin as a second person of interest. Reports referenced possible additional arrests and a potential standoff, but details about other suspects and the case’s legal resolution remain unclear.
Johnson-Averette was remembered at a memorial service on January 10, 2015. Does anyone have information about the shooting or the people involved that could help clarify what happened that night?
