Marcus Big Man Harper, 32, was killed during a home invasion and shootout in Americus, Georgia, on the evening of December 22, 2014. Two men from Columbus, 40-year-old Jermaine Taylor and 36-year-old Martin Thames, entered a Price Street residence intending to commit robbery. A gunfight followed that left Harper and Martin Thames dead and three others wounded: Jermaine Taylor and two residents, Chris Lembrick and Morrice Williams.
Investigators identified Jermaine Taylor as a suspect in Harper’s death and sought him on warrants charging felony murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Taylor was critically injured in the shootout and was located at a medical center in Macon; authorities planned to transport him to Sumter County to face the charges upon his release. The Americus Police Department, the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office, and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation handled the case.
