Daniel Cornejo was 21 and a father of two when he was fatally shot on West Avenue in Gainesville, Georgia, on a November evening in 2014. The shooting happened outside the Brookwood West No. 2 apartments; law enforcement described the attack as targeted rather than random. The Gainesville Police Department and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation led the probe and identified two suspects, Hector Alejandro Bautista (18 at the time) and David Olivas (21). Warrants were issued and both were sought as armed and dangerous.
One suspect, Hector Alejandro Bautista, was located in Mexico, extradited, and in January 2018 faced trial in Hall County Superior Court on charges including malice murder, felony murder, and aggravated assault. A jury found Bautista guilty and he was sentenced to life in prison.
If anyone knew Daniel, witnessed the November 2014 shooting, or has information about David Olivas’s whereabouts or involvement, please share what can help the investigation.
