Michael J. Sweet, 24, vanished on August 15, 1987 after leaving Point Judith in Narragansett, Rhode Island for a four-hour fishing trip with friend Peter R. Carocci. Their 19-foot outboard motorboat was later found swamped and adrift about 15 miles southeast of Block Island by the United States Coast Guard, but neither man was aboard.
Sweet is described as a white male with brown hair and brown eyes, 6 feet 1 inch tall and 185 pounds. It was not known whether he was wearing a life jacket when the pair disappeared. The Narragansett Police Department lists the case as endangered missing; Detective Lt. Kyle Edwards is assigned. The circumstances that left the boat swamped and the fate of Sweet and Carocci remain unknown.
Anyone who was on or near the water off Point Judith or Block Island on August 15, 1987, or who has information about the boat or the two men, is asked to come forward.
