Chris Strickland, 31, was shot and killed on July 29, 2014, at the Shady Acres Mobile Home Park in Bainbridge, Georgia, after an argument that began inside a mobile home. The dispute involved William Leroy Wimberly and Chris’s brother, Josh (Joshua) Strickland. Wimberly was reportedly intoxicated and was first removed from the residence; he returned shortly afterward armed with a pistol. During a struggle, Chris was shot in the chest and pronounced dead at the scene. Joshua gained control of the weapon and shot Wimberly, who was hospitalized.
The Decatur County Sheriff’s Office investigated and Wimberly was arrested. In a bench trial the following summer he was convicted of felony murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime. In September 2015 a judge sentenced Wimberly to life without parole for the murder conviction, plus an additional five years for the firearm count. Chris’s father, Larry, spoke at the sentencing about the effect on the family and on Chris’s two young children.
Did anyone at Shady Acres Mobile Home Park see what happened that day or know more about the dispute leading up to the shooting?
