On the evening of May 15, 2014, in Hazlehurst, Georgia, 64-year-old Mary L. Chambers was killed when her home on Harrison Nook was sprayed with gunfire at about 8:36 p.m. Her 41-year-old son, Javonnie Mondray Chambers, was also shot; he was pronounced dead at Jeff Davis Hospital, while Mary died en route to the Memorial Hospital Trauma Center in Savannah. Investigators tied the attack to the drug trade and believed Javonnie was the intended target while Mary was an unintended victim.
Evidence at the scene indicated at least two gunmen, both described as Black males, fired multiple rounds into the house. Two small children, ages two and four, and another adult were in the residence at the time but found cover and were unharmed. Investigators identified three suspects from Jacksonville, Florida—Robert Benjamin Brown, Brandon Dante Hardaman, and Gerald Wright—and said phone records and text messages implicated Brown, while the assailants had traveled to Jeff Davis County in a silver Dodge Charger driven by Wright.
Are there details about the two young children or the household that could help readers who knew the family come forward?
