Mandrekgus Delvin Bonner was 26 when he was shot to death in the driveway of his home on East 11th Street in Waynesboro, Georgia, in the early morning hours of April 14, 2014. What began as what looked like a drive-by evolved into an account the indictment calls a gun battle, with multiple people firing and stray bullets striking neighboring homes, a daycare center, and at least two vehicles. Bonner’s friend, 25-year-old Keleon Burdette, was also struck but survived.
On July 25, 2014, a multiagency operation serving warrants led to charges against eleven people connected to the incident; eight men were later indicted on felony murder counts. The eight named in the grand jury true bills are Keleon Dequan Burdette, Quame Lamar Collins, Levonta Trenard Cooper, Shaquille Rashad Freeman, Joseph Bennett IV, Ricky Lindell Hughes, Travis Antonio Walker, and Terrance Brown. The indictments include two murder counts each and additional charges for aggravated assault on Burdette and for the property damage caused by stray bullets. Most suspects were apprehended; one, Terrance Brown, remained at large and was described as armed and dangerous.
Are there witnesses or neighbors who recall hearing the shooting or seeing vehicles in the neighborhood that morning?
