Kevin Pierre, 23, was killed by a stray bullet during a late-evening confrontation at the Bradford Gwinnett Apartments in an unincorporated area of Norcross, Georgia, in April 2014. Accounts say he was an innocent bystander who fled the immediate scene on foot after being shot and collapsed in a nearby wooded area, where an officer found his body shortly after midnight.
Gwinnett County investigators charged two acquaintances, Sherwin Johnson and Quinton Hall, with felony murder and aggravated assault. Johnson, 34 at the time, was arrested within weeks; Hall, 29, was still being sought. Johnson represented himself at trial. In December 2018 a jury deadlocked on the felony murder count and other charges, producing a mistrial on those counts, but convicted him on two counts of aggravated assault and two drug offenses. Johnson had also argued before the Georgia Supreme Court that his arrest lacked substantial evidence and his speedy-trial rights were violated, but those efforts did not succeed.
Pierre’s family filed a civil suit against the apartment complex, alleging management knew of substantial criminal activity on the property and failed to protect residents. If anyone knew Kevin or has information about that April night at the Bradford Gwinnett complex, please share what is known.
