Sanchez Robinson was 26 when he was found shot in the driver’s seat of his Dodge Charger at the Chambers Pointe apartment complex on Chambers Road in Macon, Georgia. The Bibb County coroner pronounced him dead at the scene just before midnight on March 26, 2014. He and his girlfriend, Mercedes Thomas, were expecting their first child in August 2014; family remembered him as having a wonderful spirit and a kind heart.
The day after the shooting, authorities arrested 24-year-old Dequantez Shuntae Harris. A witness said someone exited the rear driver’s side door of Sanchez’s car and fled; Harris was charged with malice murder, possession of a firearm, and armed robbery and held without bond.
Sanchez’s mother, Regina Smith, later organized a prayer march called Save Our City to protest the violence that took her son’s life and to support other grieving families. She said she remains angry but has found it in her heart to forgive and wants to give others a platform to voice their pain and begin to heal.
