On the evening of March 16, 2014, two young men were found shot to death at Wild Horse Creek Park in Powder Springs, Georgia. Responding officers discovered 23-year-old Terrance Banks and 21-year-old Sterling Hargrave deceased in the park after neighbors reported hearing gunfire.
Police identified 14-year-old Jaydon Lee Reid as a suspect after finding him leaving the area with a 9mm handgun and a bag of marijuana. Investigators reported the victims’ DNA on Reid’s clothing and ballistic testing tied the handgun to the killings. Authorities said the shooting occurred from the backseat of a vehicle and was believed to be a robbery tied to a drug dispute; Reid had known ties to a local gang called the Ham Squad and had been seen with Banks and Hargrave in the days before the shooting.
Reid was charged as an adult and initially held at the Marietta Regional Youth Detention Center on felony murder and aggravated assault counts. In 2016 he pleaded guilty to two counts of Malice Murder and two counts of violating Georgia’s Street Gang Terrorism and Prevention Act and received two life sentences plus 15 years, with parole eligibility only after serving at least 30 years.
If anyone knew Banks or has information about his time in Powder Springs leading up to March 2014, please share what you know.
