William Fernando Barnes, 38, known professionally as DJ Nando, was shot and killed in the driveway of his Morrow, Georgia home in the early morning of January 14, 2014. He had just returned from a gig at Club Onyx around 3:30 a.m. when an assailant ran up behind him and shot him once in the head. His girlfriend, Shonté Renee, heard the gunshot from inside their Oakmill Court residence, found Barnes near his Jeep, and tried to render aid with guidance from a 911 operator; Barnes died at the scene.

Investigators from the Clayton County Police Department and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation say the shooter had been waiting for Barnes, and security camera footage shows a man walking down the driveway and hiding in bushes for several hours before Barnes arrived. The shooter fled after the attack and did not take Barnes’s laptop, money, or other valuables, which led investigators to conclude robbery was not the motive.

Barnes was a Virginia native who became a prominent DJ in the Atlanta hip-hop scene, working at Magic City and Club Onyx and helping break records by artists such as Migos, Future, and 2 Chainz. He is survived by an 11-year-old daughter. Does anyone with information about that night or the person seen on the security footage have details to share?
