Ben Teague, 63, was shot and killed on Saturday, April 25, 2009, at a social event for the Town and Gown Players in Athens‑Clarke County, Georgia. A nationally recognized scientific and technical translator who had served as president of the American Translators Association, Teague was also active in local theater as an actor, director and teacher of set building.

Reports identify the alleged shooter as University of Georgia marketing professor George Zinkhan, who is believed to have opened fire at the gathering and to have killed his wife, Marie Bruce, and two other theater members, including Teague. Teague is reported to have been killed while attempting to intervene to protect Zinkhan’s estranged wife. Another man, Tom Tanner, also died in the attack. The shooting set off a manhunt after the shooter fled the scene and left the community reeling.

Anyone who knew Ben through the translation community or the Town & Gown Players, or who has information about the event, is urged to come forward.
