On September 20, 2006, 39-year-old Doris Worrell was found shot and killed inside her family’s business, Jon’s Sports Park, in Douglas, Georgia. Her husband, Jon Worrell, told authorities he had left the business to run errands and returned to find her body. Investigators initially treated the slaying as a possible botched robbery; early reports mentioned a person who had been banned from the sports park as a potential suspect.
The case went cold over the years, though the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation kept pursuing leads both domestically and abroad. At various points detectives investigated other suspects and explored the possibility of marital problems and an inappropriate relationship involving Jon Worrell and the family’s live-in nanny, Paola Yarberry. Two men, Glidden Rodriguez and Brandon Cage, were arrested at one stage but charges were later dropped; Rodriguez has since died.
If anyone knew Doris, worked at Jon’s Sports Park in 2006, or has information about who might have been involved, please share what you know.
