On the evening of May 30, 1993, 18-year-old Charlye Merinda Dixon and her 19-year-old fiancé, Jason Hampton, were found the next day in a pickup truck at a lakeside lovers’ lane in Ware County, Georgia, both shot multiple times with a .22 caliber rifle. A short time later the community learned a third victim, 40-year-old Teresa Gail Taylor, had been shot with a .22 in her home, suggesting a possible connection between the killings.
A crucial piece of evidence recovered from Charlye Dixon’s body linked the crimes to 29-year-old Billy Daniel Raulerson when a blood sample taken during an unrelated arrest matched that evidence. Raulerson confessed, describing approaching the truck, shooting Hampton and then Dixon, moving Hampton’s body, forcing Dixon into his vehicle, and later returning to shoot her again and sexually assault her in a secluded area. He also admitted breaking into Taylor’s home and shooting her during a struggle. Investigators recovered a stolen fishing rod and parts of a .22 rifle from Raulerson’s home; ballistics connected shell casings at the scenes to that weapon.
Raulerson was later tried and convicted for the malice murders of Dixon and Hampton and the felony murder of Taylor, along with convictions for burglary, kidnapping, and necrophilia, receiving three death sentences. Did anyone in Ware County remember Charlye, Jason, or Teresa and have information that could add detail to what happened that night?
