On April 26, 1986, Nina Murray Jones, 47, was one of three members of the Jones family killed inside their home in rural Wayne County, Georgia. Her husband Clifford, 48, and their 14-year-old son Jerold were also murdered; their daughter Christy had left on a school trip about fifteen minutes before the attackers arrived. The family owned the Reedy Creek Restaurant and lived across the road from the business.
Authorities say brothers Larry and Bruce Lee broke into the house intending to steal the restaurant’s weekend receipts, with Bruce’s fiancée Sherry Lee driving the getaway car. Clifford was stabbed, beaten and shot six times after resisting; Nina was taken to a bedroom and shot three times; Jerold was beaten with a pistol, stabbed and shot while trying to flee through a window. The assailants left with guns, money and other items.
Bruce Lee was killed two months later during another burglary; Larry Lee fled to Arizona and later surrendered. Larry Lee was convicted in November 1987 and sentenced to death, but years of appeal followed.
Does anyone have memories of the Jones family or details about the Reedy Creek Restaurant that could help fill in what happened that day?
