On March 19, 1981, Roy Lee, 48, was found shot to death in his Pickens, Georgia home. His wife, 50-year-old Aville R. Romine, had also been shot and found dead in the bedroom. Investigators reported that a 16 gauge shotgun was the murder weapon and that Aville’s purse and a recent paycheck were missing from the residence, suggesting robbery as a motive.

Police arrested Larry Romine, 45, Aville’s son and Roy’s stepson. Witnesses said they saw him burning items in a trash barrel after the killings; those items were later identified as belonging to his mother. The shotgun used belonged to Ginger McEntire, identified as Romine’s girlfriend. Larry Romine was indicted for the two murders and the armed robbery, and a jury found him guilty in April 1982 with a death sentence imposed.

Does anyone have further information about the victims, their lives in Pickens, or what led investigators to Larry Romine?
