Taveon C. Davis, a 24-year-old African American man from Urbana, Illinois, was shot and killed on the evening of November 9, 2022 near the intersection of Philo Road and Michigan Avenue. Urbana Police officers responding to reports of a shooting found him with a gunshot wound to his torso; he received medical attention from officers and EMTs but was pronounced dead shortly after being taken to Carle Hospital. The Champaign County Coroner, Duane Northrup, confirmed his identity and an autopsy was scheduled.

Investigators described the shooting as appearing targeted rather than random. Police gathered evidence at the scene and asked the public for help and any video footage. On February 16, 2023, authorities arrested 45-year-old Daric Davis, not related to Taveon, and charged him with first-degree murder; he was taken into custody with help from the United States Marshal’s Service and held at the Champaign County Jail on $2 million bond.

Anyone with information or video that could help the ongoing investigation is asked to come forward.
