Darius Anderson was 17 when he was shot and killed on the streets of West Baltimore on the evening of October 2, 2009. He was found with gunshot wounds near the intersection of West Lafayette Avenue and North Payson Street; emergency responders treated him but he died from his injuries. The neighborhood is described as having a high rate of violent crime, and his death added to community concerns about youth safety.

Baltimore police opened an investigation and detectives canvassed the area for leads, but no suspects were immediately identified and no arrests were reported.
