Brian Reed, a 31-year-old African American man, was found shot to death on July 30, 2022, in the Southside of Chicago. He suffered multiple gunshot wounds; the death has been investigated as a homicide. The neighborhood’s high crime rate and initial leads prompted a broad probe into whether the killing was gang-related, but investigators said the case involved additional layers, including personal vendettas and links to other criminal activity.
Police identified several people of interest and questioned multiple suspects. One person charged in connection with the killing was 37-year-old Shanelle Reed, who was arrested and charged with first-degree murder in what authorities described as the shooting of her father, 59-year-old Brian Reed. Investigators also pursued potential accomplices and other leads as they built the case.
The killing has drawn local attention and renewed calls for action on gun violence and public safety in the community. If anyone has information about Brian Reed, the incident on July 30, 2022, or possible accomplices, please come forward to the Chicago Police Department.
